Paying your Tuition
Understand your bill and financial obligations.

 

University Policy
Tuition and fees are determined by the City University of New York (CUNY) Board of Trustees and are subject to change without notice. In the event of a tuition and fee increase, payments already made will be treated as a partial payment. Notification will be given to students concerning the additional amount owed and the deadline to pay

Payment Requirment
Students are required to pay their tuition/fees/housing balance by the posted due dates OR enroll in and maintain a term activated payment plan (Nelnet). Due dates are available on CUNY First and may vary upon the student's individual registration date.

Partial Payments
Students have the option to make partial payments towards their balance prior to the posted due date, however, partial payments towards outstanding/past due balances DO NOT prevent the accrual of late fees and the placement of a Bursar Hold. The same is true for balances remaining after terminating/cancelling a Payment Plan or any changes made to the student's Financial Aid.

Administrative Cancellation for Non-Payment
The College reserves the right to cancel student's registration for non-payment. Full payment, a payment plan (QuickPay Systems), or financial aid must be established before the term posted due date.

Course Closed
Students are entitled to full refunds in the event that a course becomes unavailable.


Billable Events

 

Withdrawal 


Refunds are not issued for official withdrawals (W grades), unofficial withdrawals (WU, WN grades), no-credits (NC grades) and failing grades (F). Medical withdrawals, which must include documentation from a physician, should be addressed to the Registrar. Medical withdrawals may be subject to the regular College refund policy. 

 

 

Drop Registration


If you have registered for courses and change your mind about attending please be sure to drop all classes. Never assume John Jay College will run a cancellation process absolving you of charges. You must drop the class prior to the first day of the semester to avoid tuition and fee drop charges. The official drop/withdrawal date processed on CUNY First determines the percentage of the refund due student. Failure to attend class, merely giving notice to the instructor, or stopping payment on a check is not considered an official drop or withdrawal.

Students who drop a portion or all of their classes online through CUNY First prior to the first official day of classes receive a 100% refund of all tuition and fees, excluding non-refundable application fees. Students who drop a class online through CUNY First during the first three (3) weeks of classes may be eligible for a partial refund. If the student is paying a full-time rate and they are still enrolled full-time after the drop, no refund is due.

Change of Program/Late Registration
Registration after the first official day of classes will incur a $25.00 Late Registration Fee. Any changes made to a student's existing program after the first official day of classes will incur a Change of Program Fee, $18.00 per each change.
